Lasting idea: fine arts can be combined with digital art to
achieve the desired effect. The artists incorporate drawings, paintings, etc.
to provide an original component when creating graphic art.
Objective:
The student:
Brainstorm, draw and draw an original image based on a
holiday using a pencil and a Sharpie marker.
Scan the original drawing and apply the color digitally.
Check the previously learned and new Photoshop tools to
create a 5x7 composition to design a greeting card
Set up a template to develop a 2-sided print that can be
cut, marked, and folded
Essential questions:
How can fine art be combined with digital art to create an
original composition?
What is a template and how do you configure it according to
the specific dimensions needed to develop a two-sided printing?
The cards must:

Be a vacation or special event.
·
Have an interior and an exterior. You will need
to make 2 documents for this.
·
Be 5X7 when closed. This means that you have to
do the doc. 10X7 or 7X10. Always 300 res.
·
Include an original drawing for you.
·
Include a gradient
·
Include the use of the brush tool in some way
·
Include text both inside and outside. The text
should go with them. There are no princess fonts with St. Patrick's Day.
Steps:
·
The teacher shows examples of past students of
successful images of greeting cards along with drawings of successful students
·
Student’s brainstorm and sketch original images
for a holiday with pencil and paper
·
A final composition is designed and the drawings
are rendered to be scanned on the computer
·
All the drawings are outlined in skinny Sharpie
before scanning
·
The teacher demonstrates how to correctly remove
the rest of the scanned image leaving only the black marker lines
·
Open the drawings in Photoshop, use the magic
wand to select all the black, select the inverse and remove the scanned paper
and pencil in the background
·
The teacher demonstrates how to fill the color
with the filling tool, as well as with the brush tool (airbrushing and shading
are required to show the value and highlights)

The color is added to the sharp drawing using
separate layers with the color fill tool as well as the brush tool
